This is a MB Slatgrille with the early body. It has the Willys script on the rear panel, squared fuel tank sump, and no glove box. It is equipped with an original early (pancake) AC air cleaner and SPARTON horn. The fire extinguisher is mounted on the right side toe-kick panel. The steering wheel is a black SHELLER and the pintle hook is WWII production. It has the early solid disc wheels with the Repo Firestone brand tires. The jeep has many wartime modifications such as the taller windshield with rifle holder and a fuel can carrier. It is also equipped with an early "U"-shaped guard on left fender BO driving light. I have been told that the frame is correct for this stage of production (it has the correct battery tray) but the replacement of the left-front frame horn sometime in the past has lost the frame serial number tag. The jeep is equipped with most of the tools, parts and accessories including all the canvas. I have recently added a MB-T, M31C mount and a dummy M1919A4 Cal. .30 machinegun. The jeep is marked for Maj. Gen. Walton Walker, commander of the XX Corp. ETO; part of Patton's Third Army. My grandfather served in the XX Corp. as a Technician, Fifth Grade (T5). Vehicle is fully functional and driven regularly. The brakes, steering, fuel system, transmission and transfer gear have all been rebuilt. The engine appears to be a war-time replacement from about September 1944 and has been completely rebuilt in fall 2003. The hood number is estimated using method in "All-American Wonder, Vol. 2".
