Ford GPW 51012
This rolling chassis was purchased locally in 1994 as a basket case. It had the remains of a 1946 CJ2 body on it,
which installation had necessitated removal from the frame of the forward half of the machine gun plate. The local area being that of the Navy, it was not surprising that there was gray paint on the frame. The vehicle came with three combat wheels and with a very tattered ORD9-SNLG503 manual. It did come with a windshield frame with brass hold-down latches. As of November, 2002, a GPW body (Navy origin) and many "F" marked parts have been accumulated to undertake a restoration. Those vehicular remains that retain any authentic element of identification, whether frame number, body number, data plate number, or hood number, should be brought back from the dead for future preservation, enjoyment, and rememberance.
