This jeep was in our local classifieds paper.I went to look at it knowing I couldn't afford it,so I figured I would just take some reference pics, and the people let me do so.Well, the months went by and I just had to have her.She is unnamed as of yet,but she just called to me with her matching frame, engine, and script tub(also matches, none of the pal nuts had ever been off and the man told me the story of how the Shriner's had bought her as surplus from the government years ago). So,I went back and made a deal for her, with the understanding that when she is done her previous caretaker gets to ride in her.I found all the original hood numbers and the same number on the back above the Ford script. She was given to the navy at some point as under all her "Flower Power"paint(that is what was painted on her windscreen),there was grey paint that was all over the jeep. The number 104 was over the U.S.N. and under that was 49390 on both sides of the hood and on the back panel. After I sanded the paint down I found all three sets of U.S.A. numbers,S 20129912,in blue drab. She has the original front script seats, all parts under hood Ford marked, original data plates, which I need to go to the garage where she is being kept while her rest. is in progress, and get the additional info from them. She is in the early stages of restoration, and I am going to try to do the most correct job on her and bring her back to US Army specs. She will be used primarily for giving Veterans rides in parades and when they want one. That is one of the main reasons I got into this.I will keep you posted on progress.Update 1/30/04:I cleaned up alot of the smaller bolts and parts like the gas tank straps, all the brackets, carb horn, air tube, footrests, grab handles, distributor splash shield, master cylinder shield, winshield, etc.,all Ford marked.I found a fully complete Ford marked tranny from another'42 GPW that I bought, even has the correct shift tower.Forgot to mention earlier that news from Jim Gilmore says that my jeep was made at Louisville,Kentucky plant. The Jeep is for sale along with ALOT of extras.
