GPW Jeep found locally.(DOD is est.)Last owner traded this war-time jeep for a cow! Missing data plates. Came with O/D Sheller steering wheel, 4 good combat rims and a good frame/body. Last inspected for the road: Aug. '77-'78. Had original Ford script windshield glass....sadly busted out.
Update: After 2 yrs. of collecting parts & storage, started rebuild off-frame on 10/12/'04. Noted: Navy gray paint in 2 coats sprayed over early dark O/D paint. Will handsand body to look for markings.
Update: 1/15/05 Found original U.S. Navy hood reg. no# this afternoon! "U.S.N. 11?48" found on left side of hood. Very exciting to finally find a clue to this GPW !!!1/30/05 Better news! Found correct entire reg. no. across rear panel! : "U.S. NAVY 119487" !!!
Update: 2/26/05 Found "U.S. NAVY 119487" in black letters on factory o/d paint under two coats of Navy gray at rear panel. Also found " Tire Pressure 35 lbs / Size 600 X 16 tires"on passenger side at outter body panel in black paint 1/2 size lettering.
