Jeep had a very good body with most components and many F stamped parts when purchased, including five combat rims in good condition with proper tires. It had been painted a tan color using latex paint that had been brushed on. Removal of the tan paint revealed that the jeep had been sand blasted to metal and then painted red at some point. No serial numbers or unit markings were found. Only one possible piece or original paint was discovered under one bracket. It was Marine Corps green in nature. Jeep has the following information "carved" into steering wheel, using dots: "Maui, TH B Company 4th Pioneer Bn Jeep # 41390" TH stands for Territory of Hawaii. B Company 4th Pioneers were assigned to the 4th Marine Division in late 1943. The division was based in Maui before and after participating in the battle of Iwo Jima. B Company 4th Pioneers were in the second wave of the assault on Iwo and earned a Presidental Unit Citation for their combat role in the campaign. The 4th Marine Division was the first Marine Division to be shipped back to the U.S. after the war, returing to San Diego in Oct. 1945. The jeep was bought in California by a former Marine (1970's era) in the early 1990's.
