This is me on 01 November 2003 recovering the 1944 GPW from the garage that it sat in since 1955. I got this Jeep from a WW2 veteran who was the original owner. He was a member of the 788 ORD LM CO. He was issued the Jeep brand new, in Italy, in 1944. He drove the jeep in combat until the end of the war in 1945. There are bullet holes in the windshield and hood. There is also a bullet grazing mark on the right side of the engine block. At the end of the war he was able to buy the Jeep from the Army. He bought the Jeep to use as transportation for himself and his wife. His wife was a native of Italy. He used the Jeep during his duty as part of the occupation force in Italy from 1945 to 1947. In May of 1947 he shipped the Jeep back home to New York and used it here as transportation here. In 1955, he had motor trouble with the Jeep, so he parked it in his garage and it sat there until I recovered it. The Jeep is in fair shape. The road salt used during the winters here really took a toll on the tub, but the frame is ok. Everything is there and it is all original Ford. As far as I can see, nothing was ever changed. Right now, the Jeep is totally disassembled and is undergoing a concours type restoration. Along with the Jeep, I received all of the original sales receipts from the Army, Army maintenance records, original manuals, pictures of the Jeep in combat with the original owner, the 1947 shipping receipt from Italy to New York, miscellaneous extra parts, tools and some war souvenirs. You can see a couple of the souvenirs in the photo.
