I have owned this jeep for several years. The data plates are original, and the hood number is the actual US registration number-I removed layers of paint until I found it. According to data I have seen, this jeep appears to be within the last 100 produced. It has a winterization kit slave receptacle opening under the passenger side fender, and the oil can holder has been removed, and two holes @ 3/4" dia are drilled through the firewall in this area. In the cowl panel directly infront of the driver there is a hole @ 12 inches or so in diameter (with a sheet metal cover), which appeares to have been cut out during the jeep's military service, as it was OD under several layers of paint. It has been suggested that a heater or some sort of starting stove might have been installed here at one time(?). It appeared that the jeep had a hardtop installed, as well. There is also a factory hole just to the left of the glovebox door that I have been told was for a defroster cable(?) Unfortunantly, besides a body and frame, I started with almost nothing. The engine is supposed to be original to the jeep, but I do not know if this is the case, as I bought it out of the barn of the first civilian owner at a different time than I got the jeep. Some of the running gear, etc. are from a '44GPW that I tore apart. I know that this jeep was last in the Civil Air Patrol, and 'dissappeared' from the government's roles in the early 1970s The jeep is not really correctly restored, probably being 'Motor Pool' in class. I call it a jeep salad- a little bit of everything. I drive it frequently, (it has a recurring gig driving veterans in the local Christmas parade) and it still sees 4WD pretty often. The kids love it.
