The Date of Delivery is a "Best Guess". This Jeep went to the British Army under contract number SM2275. Its Hood # (wartime registration #) M5834498 was changed to the British Army registration # 59 YH 07 in 1949. The Michigan title says "1944 JEEP". It was rebuilt June 1953 per the registration tag on dash. "Rebuilt to CL.1. Standard by 23 Heavy WSKP COY R.E.M.E." According to the British REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers)museum, this Jeep was rebuilt by the 23 Heavy Workshop Company in the former Demag Works in Wetter, Germany. It continued its service in Germany until August 31, 1961 The casting # on block is 638632. A previous owner put sheet metal over the shovel & axe mounts I am in the process of doing the body repairs & returning it to its WWII color of olive drab.
