GPW 7588

To Whom it may concern, I am a military vehicle enthusiast from Ireland. I have recently acquired a lovely 1942 ‘Ford GPW’ (script) U.S. jeep which was in storage in a garage in Ireland for years under a car cover! Date of delivery – 23rd March 1942 (complies with original brass NOMENCLATURE plates on glovebox door) Chassis number is GPW 7588 (complies with original brass NOMENCLATURE plates on glovebox door). So it's an early one. The jeep was exported from US to the UK as it was first registered there on 24/05/1993. Then exported to Ireland a few years later & first registered here on 10/09/1999. I am now the registered owner of this jeep and have it now about six months. It's a 1942 script Ford, all original 6 volt gear still in use, block and head finished in Ford colours, carter carb, rubber hood blocks. Ford embossed on rear panel, no spare wheel support bracket, no Jerry can holder, original cast gearbox housing with oil fill / drain on passenger side, no torque reaction spring, combat wheels, old looking seat covers and canvas, old type fuel tank. Very clean body, and has the original Corcoran Brown 6 volt sealite lights and they work!! Ford tyres. It’s built on a WILLYS TYPE frame, it is stamped GPW7588 in the right place as per Ford - between the top of the left front frame rail between the shock mount and the engine mount bracket -, so is not a motor pool salavage job. It also employes small springs on the bolts that fix the body to the frame. I showed photos of these to Tony Sudds a Jeep expert from the UK and to ‘Jeeparts’ at the War & Peace show ’08, and they informed me that this practice was a spill over from Ford’s GP production days. It's serial number is one of those listed in ‘All American wonder vol 2’ so I'm curious to learn more of it’s history, where it served, who with etc. I have managed to track down the original guy who found this jeep. It was found on a farm. Didn't take much to get her running. It seems the people he acquired it from had the jeep in their possession since wars end.
