Ford GPW 17963
Vet-owned 20 years in So. Calif., this jeep was a movie star in "War and Rememberance", Robert Mitchum rode in it. Owner was Dir. of Photography on the film and friend of Mitchum's! Ford "Script" tub, three brass data plates intact, five combat rims,"F" marked extensively. The BO light and gas can are field modifications. Currently the motor is GPW 51122 with CJ2A head, but I have motor number GPW23937 rebuilt and ready for a swapout when a proper restoration gets done. Has the proper early right-side fill GPW transmission & GPW T-case.
I installed WeeBee Webbing seats, some original SW guages and King-Seeley speedo reading "63", a VWOM wiring harness, a 6-volt setup (back from 12-volt mess) a new gas tank/lines and some OD overall to get 'er on the road.
As marked for the Normandy to Rhineland period while attached to the 3rd Army, XV Corps, the 106th Cavalry Group, the 121st Squadron, "B" Troop, 3rd Platoon, 3rd Vehicle and has an estimated hood number of 20113475 - S (thanks Tom Wolboldt) and was built at the Ford plant in Chester, PA. She tows a Bantam 1/4 Ton trailer correctly restored with all proper Bantam accoutrements.
My Dad worked at Sun Shipbuilding yards in Chester at the time GPW 17963 was built producing tankers for the war effort, just a couple miles away. Another "Six Degrees of Separation"!
