My granddad was stationed in Fogi, Italy, during WWII. It was there he was exposed to the vehicle we know now call the jeep. When he returned home he wanted one for his use on the farm. The ex GI got fist dibs on military equipment auctioned to the public. He picked up this jeep on Tinker AFB OKC, Oklahoma. It had a spun rod bearing and I believe his purchase price of the jeep was $300. The date was late 40's early 50's. While he was courting my grandmother, this jeep and his airplane were his only two vehicles. This worried his soon to be father-in-law, according to my grandmother. Nevertheless the jeep was still in his ownership until his death in spring 2014.
