AS LISTED ON MILWEB: Australian Barn Find 1942 Willys MB Original and Complete. Complete and Original Barn Find 1942 Willys MB Jeep. This April 9th 1942 Willys MB Jeep was recently found in a barn in Australia where it has sat since 1975. The last registration certificate is still attached to the windscreen confirming the date it was taken off the road. The Jeep was purchased from the Australian Army in 1946 at a surplus sale after WW2, by a farmer, who extended and modified the body tub into a tray back with a tailgate and used it on the farm. Those of you who know their WW2 Jeeps, appreciate that finding genuine barn finds these days is becoming increasingly difficult. This one is incredibly complete and a super rare vehicle. As with many Australian Jeeps the data plates on this one display BRT, which is part of a British consignment diverted to Australia. The original items on this Jeep are: 5 Combat Rims, Original Fire Extinguisher and bracket, Original Gauges, Radiator, MB Engine and ancillaries, T84 Transmission, Transfer Case, Complete running gear and drivetrain, Steering gear and wheel, Seats, Fuel Tank, Pedals, switches, Hood, wind deflector inside hood, Wings, front 3/4 of the Tub, Grille, Canvas along the top of the grille. Fuel Filter, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Distributor, 6v wiring and components, black out lights in grille, Headlights, front bumper, data plates, chassis tag, Chassis, brakes etc. remains of original seat cushions. It is the most complete and original Willys MB I have ever seen and benefits from having been unmolested throughout its life after WW2. I can honestly say that I am unlikely to ever find an original Willys MB in as complete and original condition as this one as it truly is the holy grail! The extension put on to the chassis at the rear to incorporate the extended tub has been done in a sympathetic way and done very well indeed. The rear bumper and bumperettes of the Jeep were carefully removed and a metal frame manufactured to slide over the rear chassis ends. These were then simply bolted in place and a pair of coil springs put in place to provide extra support to the original leaf springs. I have the original rear half of the tub with the carry handles, top box supports etc. attached to it that will come with the Jeep. To correct these mods to the chassis and tub will be very straightforward indeed and the majority of the original tub can be retained. The only other mod is to the windscreen. The original windscreen frame has been modified to fit hand signals as is the case with most Australian Jeeps. Nothing difficult to remove and repair. Having inspected the Jeep thoroughly it is clear the paint on the front wings, hood etc. has a number of thick layers. It was hand painted at some point in its life and it is clear on the driver side wing, where I have removed some that was flaking; it has revealed the original metal panel in incredible condition. The paint appears to have protected the metal throughout its long life to the point the metal underneath appears in fantastic condition. From the in service mods to the front bumper it appears the Jeep may have belonged to an officer of some note. The frame on the front passenger side appears to be made to hold the persons insignia or star ranking board and there are small tubes at each end which one would assume was used for penants. The engine is the original wartime engine and turns freely. The transmission goes through the gears freely. Anyone who knows WW2 Jeeps will recognise that this is something very special indeed and accordingly no silly offers will be entertained. I am happy to provide additional pics / information as requested. Asking price: £11,500 ono. Comments: Flat top stamped grille, rear body tub modified heavily or completely replaced.
